We know observation is the Montessori method. But why should we observe? What is the purpose of observation?
Dr. Montessori answered, we observe to “guide the development of the child’s spirit.” We do not observe to correct. Dr. Montessori taught, “It is not a teacher who makes him notice his mistakes and shows him how to correct it, but it is a complex work of the child’s own intelligence which leads to such a result.”
During this presentation, Dr. Paul Epstein will define “the child’s spirit.” Paul will describe his C.O.R.E. observation learning system and how using this system results with learning about children … and ourselves. When we learn, we become, in Dr. Montessori’s words, “joyous observers” who guide children more effectively.
