Finding the Balance of Liberty and Discipline

Mary Ellen Maunz

Description

We will examine the close relationship between Liberty and Discipline, affirming Montessori’s teaching that every problem in discipline has its roots in a lack of freedom. We will explore Montessori’s words on this matter and give examples of how to provide freedom to children of every age, with a focus on early childhood.

It is freedom to choose and work undisturbed in the richly prepared environment that leads each child to the crowning achievement of becoming normalized.
